Clowning around with Mark Parenteau are Johnny Van Zant and Rickey Medlocke of the reformed Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Again and outtake form the “official” picture, I have no recollection as to why Mark has an NYPD hat on.  What is interesting is that Rickey only has the Crazy Horse tattoo on his left arm.  He’s added a significant amount of ink to his right arm in the last 19 years and they all look great.

Shot on 35mm film.

August 16, 1998 - Van Cherone

Gary Cherone, formerly of Extreme replaced Sammy Hagar as the lead singer of Van Halen for a hot minute in the late 90s.

They played The PNC Bank Arts Center on August 16, 1998 and a number of us from Q104.3 were backstage for a meet and greet.

The official shots featured about 15 of us with the band, but this one is special to me for one simple reason: it is the first picture I ever took at a concert.

Shot on 35mm film, from left to right: Eddie Van Halen, Gary Cherone, former Q104.3 PD (and current head of Rock Programming for Beasley) Bill Weston, Michael Anthony and Alex Van Halen.

July 1998 Mark Parenteau and Meat Loaf

Q104.3 had been a Classic Rock station for about 18 months when I got there in April of 1998.  The station was going through changes and one of those was importing Mark Parenteau from WBCN in Boston to do afternoons.

I had known Mark from my time in Boston, and he’d even been on my show at Emerson’s WERS, a few times.

Meat Loaf was at the station promoting his upcoming VH1 Storyteller’s appearance.  This image, shot on 35mm film was an outtake of the “official” shot that made it to Q1043.com.  As you will see from other shots in this series, trying to get Mark to “be serious” was a fools errand.

Ignore the timestamp on the photo, the internal clock on the camera was not working properly that day.

In May of 1998, I had just started at WAXQ-FM, Q104.3 in New York.  We did a 13 hour broadcast to celebrate the finale of the TV Show Seinfeld.

I know I have more pictures of this day, but this is the only one I can locate now.  Shot on 35mm film, the picture is of former Q104.3 Marketing Director Paul Miraldi, former Event Coordinator Brian Lopez and Len Lesser who played Uncle Leo on Seinfeld.

It was a hectic day and this image captures a short break in the action because Uncle Leo was one of Brian’s favorite characters.  Paul wanted us to move along and get back to work.
